Thai as a foreign language
Thai as a foreign language may be studied as a non-degree course in either a three-month or one-year (three-semester) program. The three-month program is an introduction to Thai language while the one-year program gives a more thorough grounding particularly for those who may wish to undertake further study in Thai language. Subject to a proficiency test, students who complete the one-year Thai-as-a-foreign-language program may enroll for the three-year Thai-as-a-foreign-language bachelor’s degree course or other undergraduate programs presented in Thai at MSU.
Three-month program
Eligibility: Available to any foreigner wishing to gain a basic knowledge of Thai language.
Cost: 5,000 to 8,400 baht per student depending on number of students (tuition only).
Additional expenses: Text books, handouts, class aids, activities, accommodation, health insurance.
Class attendance: Four hours per week over 12 weeks.
One-year program
Eligibility: High school diploma or equivalent.
Cost: 55,000 baht per student (tuition only).
Additional expenses: Text books, handouts, class aids, activities, accommodation, field trip, health insurance.
Activities include one field trip to an archeological or cultural site (eg ancient remains, museum, village, historical park, temple) and cultural activities (eg Thai cooking, Thai boxing, Thai musical instruments, Thai classical singing, Thai modern singing, Thai dancing, Thai carving, local Thai music, Thai country music).
Class attendance: 20—32 hours per week.
